1.
Kissing the ghost of M R James A bloody place with a bloody hook And a bloody key for a bloody archive If you don't want to see You shouldn't look A dusty diary in a dusty place And a curious thing without a face If you don't want to see You shouldn't look Doctor of divinity feel the rise in anxiety If you don't want to know You shouldn't go Finding a thing that shouldn't be found Knowing a thing that shouldn't be known If you don't want to know You shouldn't go
2.
Darkness falls and the silence calls day is done and then the demons come the hand of fate in a decayed state nowhere to run when the demons come malevolent hate no escape from what’s begun when the demons come ask anyone if you need a gun ask anyone if you need a gun when the demons come
3.
Do you believe in ghosts she said I said no then she fell dead
4.
Heathland gorse a shingle shore and a place of ancient law Even as you're looking down a sinister feeling comes around Take it easy or take it serious Take heed, a warning to the curious Figure on the edge of your eye growling dog on a leash close by Hear a pained and desolate cry the threat is you will die Take it easy or take it serious Take heed, a warning to the curious Sea mist falls across the land shoeless footprints in the sand A body lies beside a wall I can say no more at all Take it easy or take it serious Take heed, a warning to the curious

about

Welcome to the first volume of Songs of Ghosts and Demons. There is a clue in the title as to the subject matter.

Our deceptively jolly opener, ‘Kissing The Ghost of M R James’, is our tribute to that great writer of ghost stores, or writer of great ghost stories, Montague Rhodes James (1862-1936). If you haven’t read any of his works you should do so now and you’ll find out what we mean by ‘if you don’t want to see, you shouldn’t look’.

Written at 3am and probably best listened to at that time, ‘When The Demons Come’ will intrigue the more musically-aware listener with its parallel fifths guitar solo: if it’s good enough for Beethoven (the fifths that is, not the guitar solo) it's good enough for the funboy five (just). There’s a rattlesnake on it as well. Even Beethoven never thought of that.

To be clear for those with lo-fidelity devices, the lyric of ‘Ghosts She Said’ is ‘she fell dead’ not 'she felt dead’. But what is that banging on the wall?

We conclude this first volume (more to come), with the ‘disturbed’ remix of the M R James-inspired ‘A Warning To The Curious’ which you will have enjoyed in its regular mix form in our 2019 release An Autumn Collection.

Thank you and good night. Don’t forget to look under the bed. Or in it.
